MASS CALIBRATION

The Metal Technological Center's Calibration Lab has the ENAC accreditation (138/LC10.098) in the mass area for the calibration of weights, scales, balances, hoppers, hooks... and other non-automatic weighing instruments, as well as automatic weighing instruments, such as checkweighers.

It also has the designation as an Authorized Verification Organization (08-OV-0015) to carry out the metrological control for periodic verification and after the repair of the non-automatic and automatic (checkweighers) weighing instruments.

Our ENAC accreditation covers the range up to 1000 kg in mass and up to 63000 kg in weighing instruments. You can check our detailed scope on www.enac.es

What is mass magnitude?

The mass is the magnitude that indicates the quantity of matter that a body possesses and is determined by the acceleration produced by a force that act on it. Its unit in the International Unit System is the kg

Another different thing is the weight, which represents the force with which a body is attracted by gravity and which unit in the International Unit System is the Newton.

Mass patterns

The pattern weighs have different specifications, following maximum permissible errors, construction, shape, design, material characteristics, mark, presentation, density of the materials...

The most common classification of the weighs is the one gathered in OIML R 111: E1, E2, F1, F2, M1, M1-2, M2, M2-3 y M3

Weighing equipments

A weighing equipment is a measuring instrument that helps determine the mass of a body, using the action of gravity on said body.

Based on the functioning mode, we distinguish:

  • Non-automatic weighing instruments
  • Automatic weighing instruments

What does calibration consist of?

Calibration consists of comparing the values indicated by the measuring instrument that is to be calibrated with the values of the pattern masses that are used in specific conditions and with a defined method, that takes into consideration the influence of the different factors that affect the reading of the equipment that is to be calibrated. The calibration is carried out in a controlled and documented way.

The calibration ensures the reliability of the measurements of the calibrated equipments and to warrant the adequate functioning in the facilities and processes where they are used, contributing to increase quality.

The result of the calibration is collected in a Calibration Certificate, where the correction values to be applied in different considered calibration points will be indicated, as well as the uncertainty of those measures.
